Mid-west regional Pastors' conference in Nepalgunj on the theme"Role of Christians in building new Nepal", 2-5 October 07

Giving continuity to its work of  creating awareness among the Pastors and Church leaders about the role of Church in the present context of Nepal  and  playing a role of catalyst to  develop regional and local level unity among the Churches, NCCN  with  the support of  the local coordinating committee  formed by the Churches

 in Nepalgunj  organized the  first ever biggest   conference of the Pastors and Church leaders in Mid West Nepal  from 2 – 5 October 2007. In the conference organized in Nepalgunj with the theme "Role of Christians in building New Nepal" about 200 Pastors and key leaders of the Church took part from 15 Districts of Mid West Nepal.

NCCN General Secretary Dr. K.B. Rokaya, Co-executive of Global Ministries USA Rogers Witte Ann and the Southern Asia Director of Global Ministries USA Rev. Dr. James Vijayakumar worked as resourceperson for this programme.

 

The main topics and issues discussed in the conference  were role of Christians for building  just and equitable society, peace, justice, human rights and role to be played by the Church and Christian community, the contextual application of the scripture, gospel and culture, importance of unity among the churches,  importance of inter-religious dialogue and interfaith cooperation etc.

Being impressed by the topics and issues discussed in the conference, the participants formed Mid West Regional Christian Council (MWRCC) to give continuity to the issues discussed and to work as representative body of Christians in this region.

On the 5th October, the final day of the conference, the newly formed MWRCC organized an inter-religious interaction and media get-together programme on the theme "Role of religious communities in building new Nepal" in the same venue which was attended by the representatives of Hindu, Islam, Sikh , Christian, Bramhakumari and other major religious groups and sub-groups , local government officials,

media , district level leaders of political parties and  civil society members. Speaking at the program the participants praised the efforts being made by NCCN to bring together various religious communities in Nepal and create an environment of religious harmony, co-existence, understanding and cooperation.

In the same programme, the MWRCC, on behalf of the Christian community in Mid-west region of Nepal, honored Dr. K.B. Rokaya for getting appointed as one of the commissioners of the National Human Rights commission and for his continuous  efforts to unite christian community and providing leadership to them to work for peace, justice, human rights, religious freedom and development.
